The Gift of Being Yourself: The Sacred Call to Self-Discovery I actually finished a book. Yes, cover to cover. This indeed is something to celebrate. I am the queen of distraction often beginning another book before finishing the last. However, this recent read, The Gift of Being Yourself by David Benner, totally captivated me and held me faithful to its completion. Perhaps it has much to do with it resonating with the current season of life I find myself.

Upon reading the last page and closing the cover, I came to the conclusion that I would just have to begin reading it all over again because there is so much to absorb within its pages and I can download only so much at any given time. I feel pretty confident in saying that it will take its place on my bookshelf with a few other titles that have influenced and impacted me deeply.

I can’t help but also feel totally inspired to go “be myself” and make art.

” Finding that unique self is, as noted by Thomas Merton, the problem on which all our existence, peace and happiness depend. Nothing is more important, for if we find our true self we find God, and if we find God, we find our most authentic self. “ – David Benner
